Hi Tui

Just been doing a bit of shopping for our plant work. In the meantime if anyone has a glass jar at home...clean jam jar etc...if you could bring it to school I would really appreciate it. Please be careful transporting that.

Tomorrow at Capital E

Hi guys I did say that I would take you back to Capital E tomorrow if you wanted to complete the "Give it a Try" activity. If you think you are interested go onto their website www.capitale.org.nz to get further information. I have tried to get the permission slip but cant find it - you might have better luck!
However if you want to have a go you must:-

• Bring 8 dollars

• a USB to put your video on

and most importantly

• write the following on a piece of paper neatly/or copy and paste and have your parents sign it. I take it that your parents don't have to be there just me as your guardian as the woman supervising knew we were a class!!

Hi guys,

Thanks for being such awesome students today - we were praised by all the facilitators , who absolutely raved about the whole school!! Mrs D has just said how Mrs Frampton really raved about you as well on Monday - you were adorable apparently so top marks - that is a senior class!!
Thanks to the two students that have already confirmed that they are being rice cookers tomorrow - great news but we still need more so I look forward to hearing from others!!

Hi Tui,
Busy planning some lessons for first day back and looking at resourses that I need. Can you help me out by bringing some paper bags to school on Monday? Don't worry if you can't find paper, I basically just need medium sized bags that we can't see into. All contributions welcome.

Don't forget...I'll be expecting S research on the first Monday back and we'll also be having our big spelling test sometime on Monday. Test will be out of 30, therefore highest possible class score will be 690. Shall we aim for 80% of this to get our class treat?

Manaakitanga - the Art Gallery Experience

Hi everyone,
Once again thank you for your wonderful celebration of my birthday over the last couple of days - it has been awesome!! Now for the bad news....
I meant to say that I wanted you to reflect on our gallery visit today in two ways.

• What symbols and techniques did viewing the work today teach you? Make sure you detail your understanding.
• What aspects about Maori did you learn or think more about today by visiting the gallery?

If you draft it out this weekend while it is still fresh in your mind and then write it into your L.E.G. book next week that would be great. Please give it a border using the Maori symbols that you learnt about today.

Finally, thanks for the care and concern a number of you have shown towards me after I had the shock and worry of my girls with the next earthquake. They are both fine - very shaken but are now safe at Rebekah's flat - cooking scones!! They are the lucky ones whose power is back on so when you are stressed what better thing to do but eat!!
Make sure you say some prayers for all Cantabrians tonight.

Anyhow well done - you worked as a great team and really stepped up as senior of the school.

contractions sheet

Hi Tui,
Had a few questions as to when I want the spelling homework back ie the contractions sheet work I gave you...next Monday please is the answer to that question.
Keep learning them. Make sure you can spell them correctly, make sure you can write them neatly with the apostrophe in the correct place, make sure you know what they are short for and make sure you know them so well that you would recognise when I wrote them down incorrectly.
I'm not sure yet how I will be testing your knowledge so you'll need to be prepared!

Have you all got an alphabet research topic sorted? Don't forget, I wanted a Spanish theme for this one. Think outside the box for this one eg you can do Penelope Cruz if you wanted and class her as a Spanish actress etc

Camp Fundraising

Hi everyone, I need to know asap if you are interested in organising school lunches on a Wednesday for camp fundraiser. To do so we need a roster of parents that will support you (at 8.30 to put the food on etc) the rest we can do together. Who is interested and what parental support is there? Likewise , we are thinking that the rugby night is August 6?? But I am not going to do anything more unless there are a few more that respond to my previous blog!

Been meaning to tell you your spelling score from the test.
Maximum you could have achieved=276 (23 students x 12...I haven't included Georgina as she is on holiday)
75% 0f 276=207.
So, you had to beat 207. And you did! Just. 208 is the class score so well done Tui!
Will think of something nice to treat you.

Don't forget, I'm in on Friday and I want to see everyones Strands book with FIO book and page number and a LI on it. And have a look back at the comments you wrote at the start of this topic. Are things a bit clearer now? Write me a little comment in your strands book and let me know how you're going.

The following is an invitation extended to you all as a potential camp fundraiser. FOSA is hosting a "Rugby night" and they wondered if you would like to raise money by :-

Tui providing a sausage sizzle outside the hall for the rugby night – if they decide to take it on, it will be their responsibility to source everything they need and organise an adult to supervise. They could sell sausages to people as they come in and also at half time and could be a good little earner for them.

So if you are interested - Ask your parents if you are allowed to be involved and also whether or not they are prepared to be one of the supervising adults. The plan would be to create a roster!

Some of you had a go at an egg in vinegar experiment as part of your osmosis research...further information on www.ilovebacteria.com.
Have a look about what it says about the egg shell and then what happens to the egg when the shell has dissolved.
Might try to do this in class when we get some time.

Hi Tui
I'm going to pop into school Friday morning so before you go off on your travels can you please hand in your inquiry books. In there you should have finished the experiment about the potatoes and the effect of salt on them and you should have added your own conclusion by the time they're handed in.
Mrs Johnson was also hoping to give you some time to write up the method about the other experiment we've got on the go...potatoes and toothpicks one. So I'll be looking at that too.

Plus I'd like to see my reading groups work so WWI and WWII hand those books in too please.
